This week we welcome Dr. Ellie Farahmand Pourbaba as she discusses the importance of maintaining proper oral health, and the connection between oral health and overall health. As a cosmetic dentist working at a private practice in Santa Monica, California, she utilizes her decades of experience to teach on the risks associated with gum disease, including the potential of strokes, pregnancy complications, Alzheimer’s, and more. The mouth serves as a mirror to the body, reflecting on our overall health, so creating the right dental routine, which includes regular cleanings with your dental hygenist, as well as proper at-home care, can prevent the buildup of bacteria in the mouth that if left untreated, can lead to more serious health conditions. As a leader within our community, a founding member of the Parent Advisory Board of Pediatric Surgery at Cedars Sinai Hospital, and a board member at Sinai Temple, Ellie is inspiring us to stay connected through our health, and by practicing self-care.
Dr. Ellie Farahmand Pourbaba received her Bachelor’s Degree at the University of California Santa Barbara. She then continued her studies at USC, where she received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery.
She has since worked as a General/Cosmetic Dentist within the Los Angeles area finding her home at Santa Monica Dental.
Her passions outside of work led her to some leadership positions in her community. She served as a board member at Sinai Akiba Academy where her children attended school. She was the Chair of the Development Committee and also served as a Board Member at Sinai Temple. During her time there she chaired the Bar/Bat Mitzvah Committee.
One of her most fulfilling positions came after the birth of her twins and the wonderful care one received at Cedars Sinai, where he needed surgery. Dr. Farahmand and her husband were part of the founding members of the Parent Advisory Board of Pediatric Surgery at Cedars Sinai Hospital.
